[IATCB] News and updates for September 2022

Board Happenings:

Nicki Boyd is stepping down from the Board:

It is with sadness that the board of IATCB bids farewell to Nicki Boyd. Nicki served on the board of IATCB from the earliest days, before we were fully, independently, incorporated. During that time she has been instrumental in collecting test items and assisting in reviewing them for inclusion into our item database. Additionally, Nicki’s input during our examination review process was always incisive and invaluable. The whole board of IATCB wishes Nicky good luck as she embarks on not one, but two masters’ classes in the fall. Heartfelt thanks!

Another New Face on the IABTCB Board:

Kimm Hunt is the owner of Kimm Hunt Dog Training in Alpharetta, GA, where she provides pet behavior consulting services for owners and rescue organizations. She approaches training through the lens of human and animal welfare, seeking to maximize owner well-being and adoption satisfaction and pet behavioral health through owner education, pet behavior management, and training.
She developed an interest in animal behavior in 1989 while working as an animal control officer. She then ran the shelter’s education department. Her favorite endeavors were a hands-on educational day camp for youth, a that taught adolescents in treatment for substance abuse to train adoption dogs that decreased adoption times by 50%, and spearheading changes in officer interactions with pet owners to increase compliance with rabies control and welfare laws.

Kimm also has a background in writing and editing. She was the editor for a suburban weekly newspaper and for a major sports and Americana memorabilia auction house catalog. She then spent 16 years as a homeschooling parent and taught animal behavior and pet training to youth ages 10-16.

Kimm has a BS in Animal Sciences from the University of Illinois, studied Public Services Management at DePaul University, and is currently pursuing a MSc in Clinical Animal Behavior from the University of Edinburgh. She is relocating to Chicagoland in September 2022. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve as a board member for IATCB.

Mark your calendars, the next application deadline is September 14, 2022 and October 15-29, 2022.  Our testing company, PTC has partnered with Prometric for Computer-Based Testing.  Learn More here.

Already certified?

The CPBT-KA and CPAT-KA credential is valid for 5 years from the date it is awarded. To renew the credential a certificant must either re-take the examination after 5 years or accumulate sixty (60) Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) by attending IATCB approved workshops, seminars, classes, or conferences.   Head over to here to check out a list of approved CEUs!

Did you attend AZA or AAZK this month? How about another conference, workshop or symposium? Don’t forget to apply for your CEU’s!

Please note that all CEUs MUST be claimed with two (2) months of the event, submissions will not be accepted after this period.

U.K sees Hen Harrier Population Growth

This year has seen another encouraging increase in the breeding population of one of our rarest birds of prey. Natural England and partners are pleased to report that a total of 49 hen harrier nests were recorded, and 119 chicks took to the skies. This is the first time in over 100 years that more than 100 hen harrier chicks have successfully fledged in England, showing real progress in efforts to protect and restore their numbers.
