Hello Visitor,

IATCB wishes you a happy and prosperous New Year ... soaring into 2017!

Today's featured CPBT-KA (Certified Professional Bird Trainer - Knowledge Assessed) is
Rebeca Sturniolo. Rebecca is currently the Assistant Curator for American Trail at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. She has "had the pleasure of working with many different types of birds, but my favorite so far has been the brown pelican. All of the pelicans I've worked with have been rescued birds so they've all provided their own set of challenges."
Rebecca said that she was inspired to take the test because "I am always looking for ways to further my education in the field and challenge myself, and taking the test seemed like a good way to do both at the same time!"
"Being certified has definitely given me more confidence in my ability and encouraged me to continue to pursue further training. It also has created a lot of conversations about the certification. People don't know what CPBT-KA stands for, so when they see it behind my signature and ask, I get the opportunity to talk to them about becoming certified through IATCB and joining IAATE."
If you are thinking about getting certified, Rebecca has some advice! "You probably already know more than you think you do, and getting certified is a great way to give yourself some professional development and strengthen your skills. The reading material for the course is also incredibly informative and I've shared almost all of it with my staff already - little do they know I'm secretly prepping for all of them to become certified  ;)"
If you would like to find out more about setting these types of standards within your facility or becoming certified contact the IATCB board by visiting the website!

New IATCB partner organizations.
IATCB is pleased to announce that in addition to our founding partner IAATE we have partnered with two other professional organizations. The new partners are Animal Behavior Management Alliance (ABMA) and the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK). Professional level members of both the ABMA and the AAZK qualify for a discount on the examination fee. Professional Testing Corporation will be updating our online registration forms and the Candidate Handbook to reflect these new, exciting partnerships.

In order to simplify the process of validating membership of one of our partner organizations we will soon be implementing a "coupon code" on the application forms. Our three partner organizations will be distributing the codes to their professional level members. Please note that misuse of the codes will result in the invalidation of any certification gained.
